Friends, please don’t worry, this is not another long blog so quick after you got the last one.
Rather, it is a list of humorous, fun, uplifting, spiritually inspiring YouTube videos for your enjoyment. So be happy!
The first one is of Bobby McFerrin’s classic song, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” first published in 1988. The title comes from the teaching of Meyer Baba, an Indian guru. In an interview with USA Weekend magazine, McFerrin explained that he saw a poster of Meher Baba with the phrase and thought it was “a pretty neat philosophy in four words.” Amen!
Below are three links from songs by Bobby McFerrin, the first being the the original song/video “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” I’m sure you have heard and know the song. But if you are like me, I suspect you never have seen his wonderful, funny, uplifting video of it. So see below. Clowning around with McFerrin in this video are comedians Bill Erwin and Robin Williams. The whole thing is a hoot! The song hit number 1 on the charts, and was called the feel good song of the century.
This next one is the same song sung around the world by various groups of children in South USA, France, Belgium, Ghana, USA and elsewhere. It is delightful.
And third, another fabulous McFerrin and group song, is his version of the 23rd Psalm, with She instead of He in it. I used to listen to this all the time. And have begun to do so again.
This fourth one is a combination of a Bach song, the notes sung by McFerrin, with the audience singing Ave Maria above it. This is classic McFerrin interaction with the audience, which transforms and lifts them into transcendent consciousness, which as McFerrin says is the purpose and goal of all good music.
I loved the crack in that if you are Jewish and have trouble singing Ave Maria, you can sing Oy vey Maria
And five, six and seven are each 15-minute segments of a Bobby McFerrin Documentary Parts 1, 2 and 3. It covers most of his incredible creative life. And yes, it is on the long side, so you may want to watch it later, or one segment at a time. But you you will enjoy it and marvel at Bobby’s incredible career and multiple musical expressions. I ended up watching all three last night before going to bed, and I definitely was a happy boy as a result. Enjoy. (Hopefully, I got all of these segments right. Will see when it comes to me via email.)
