I love the theme of God trying to get our attention through seemingly ordinary physical events. After all, He-She is all around and within all life, always trying to get our fuller attention.
By the way, Keb’ refers to God as She in one part of the lyrics. The official lyrics use the word “should” but it sure sounds like “She’ll.” See for yourself (at just after 1:15 in the recording).
I especially like the last part of the song, where Keb’ wraps it up and sings: “Listen to the birds, listen to the trees, listen to the rivers, listen to the seas, etc. . . .” Yes, God is in all of these parts of Mother Nature who speaks to us all the time, if we are still and listen. Or as Bob Dylan sang: “The answer my friends is blowing in the wind.”
